1. What is your name and the name of the organisation you represent?

My name is Natalia Tangke and I work for PathFinders as a Program Coordinator to manage Education & Supply for our beneficiaries. I also facilitate Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) Engagement by managing Indonesian ambassadors in our Train The Trainers program.

2. Tell us more about your group’s advocacy.

Identifying a gap in Hong Kong society where women and babies go undocumented and unprotected, PathFinders was founded to bridge this gap on the belief that no child should be born alone and deprived of medical support, shelter and identity.

PathFinders is the only organisation that specifically supports the needs of children born in HK to migrant mothers, predominantly FDWs. We place the child at the centre of everything we do.

Our main objective is to ensure the most vulnerable and unsupported children in Hong Kong are protected and respected, and their mothers are empowered to find a path to a brighter future. Since 2008, we have been able to protect almost 7,000 babies, children, and women, and prevent countless others from falling into crisis through our outreach and education with over 62,000 Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) and members of the public. After being here for more than 10 years to assist and support migrant mothers in crisis, PathFinders is now focusing on crisis prevention through our Community Engagement by empowering FDWs, educating employers and employment agencies as well as influencing systemic change.

3. How would a migrant worker get in touch with Pathfinders?

Thanks to technology, there are many ways to reach us, depending on what kind of information or assistance needed.

Please visit our website: www.pathfinders.org.hk to get comprehensive information about our organisation and service. We are developing our website at the moment to come in four languages by the end of this year: English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia.

You can also visit our Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/PFFMW/ for more updates on our past and future events, training, as well as articles and other useful news and information. We regularly check out our inbox for any enquiries, so please feel free to reach us any time.

For case-related enquiries or assistance, please contact our case hotline at 5190 4886 (phone call or whatsapp call/message).

4. What social issues would you like to see improve?

Most of the time, with the lack of support and empowerment, it is very easy for migrant women to be used by irresponsible people who take advantage of them and leave them to deal with the negative consequences. Thus, I hope that migrant women and mothers have more confidence and knowledge so they can make their own decision and plan for their future and for their family.

5. Advice for migrant workers.

Be positive. Use your time and energy to develop yourself with useful knowledge and skills. Surround yourself with positive people who can support you and give genuine and honest advice, even if sometimes it’s not what you want to hear in the first place.

Be brave and firm to say “NO” for anything that will put you in a difficult situation in the future.

6. How can people help or donate to your cause?

Please check out our website to see different “Ways to Help” us ( https://www.pathfinders.org.hk/en/ways-to-help).

For migrant workers who want to get involved in our community outreach, they can join the Train The Trainers Programme which aims to empower migrant workers to become PathFinders' Ambassadors and educate their peers about maternity protection and the importance of making well-informed life decisions while working in Hong Kong.

Each PathFinders Ambassador is provided with bespoke training to enable them to professionally deliver our messages with confidence, accuracy, confidentiality and in a way that is culturally sensitive. Visit our website for more information about our ambassador program.  You can also reach us by sending a direct message on our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PFFMW/.
