1. What is your name and tell us about yourself

My name is Bruce Aitken, originally from New Jersey, I left the USA soon after graduating from Florida Southern College in 1967, on a baseball scholarship. After a knee injury ended my career as a baseball player, I took a job with American Express in Vietnam from 1969 until 1971, before coming to Hong Kong in 1972.

I worked in financially related business, and recently wrote a book, The Cleaner   www.thecleanerbook.com  At the turn of the century, 2000, looking for spiritual meaning in life, I learned to serve the Lord is the highest calling, and since 2004 have hosted and produced a popular radio program for OFW and minorities, called the Hour of Love.   I am blessed with a wonderful family, with my wife, two sons and three grandchildren.

2. Can you please tell us a bit more about your radio show, the hour of love?

As a stead church goer, I met many members of the OFW community and I saw how much everyone enjoyed listening to praise music, so I approached AM 1044 Metro Plus and The Hour of Love was "born" on Palm Sunday, April 4, 2004.   It soon became popular and attracted a huge following, and a source of comfort to listeners, who also called in with Prayer Requests, and soon called back with the "Good News" of many answered prayers.

What happened next was a big surprise, and most of the inmates in Hong Kong prisons started to tune in and write to me.  Hence, while the Hour of Love is on every Sunday night from 8:30-11:00 pm, the first segment, Prison Visitation on the Air runs from 8:30-10:00.  The whole program streams "live" on Facebook on Hour of Love - AM 1044 Metro Plus.

3. What improvements in the migrant community would you like to see?

Regarding the migrant community improvements, there are many areas where improvement can be made, in terms of understanding each other in relations between employers and helpers.  On the one hand, helpers experience here greatly depends on an employer who is understanding of the sacrifices made to leave family and country for a better economic situation, while at the same time, helpers need to understand the ways and culture of living in a Chinese city.

4. A few words of wisdom for your audience

My "words of wisdom" for my audience on the radio are the same I strive for myself.  Every day is a blessing.  Life has its trials for everyone without exception, we all just have a different set of trials, but don't forget to count the blessings, and in all our actions remember the Golden Rule, do unto others and you would have them do unto you, and focus on faith, hope and love over the material, which we all are in need of.  You are not alone, you talk to God in prayers, and then be at peace.

5. Where can we listen to The Hour of Love and read your work?

In addition to turning into the Hour of Love and reading my book, The Cleaner (available in most Hong Kong bookstores, and on Amazon, I invite all to take a break from your routine and break the mold.   We have a "Community", the Hour of Love that meets for Mass every Sunday at St. Jude Church in Kam Tin, in the New Territories, at 1:00 every Sunday.  It is easy to find, just a 5-minute walk from Kam Sheung Road, MTR Station, one stop from Yuen Long on the West Rail Line.

Our environment is very rural and peaceful, resembling a small church somewhere in the Province in the Philippines, so we spend the day there in Community activities and breaking bread.  All are welcome to please tune into AM 1044 Metro Plus from 8:30-11:00 on Sunday nights for more information and more blessings!  Thank you for your support!
