1. What is your name and the name of the organisation you represent?

My name is Phoenix Chan, and I am a long-term volunteer and currently a summer fundraising intern for Enrich HK (Enrich).

2. Tell us more about yourself and the group’s advocacy

I recently graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with an Upper Second Class Honours in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and will start the PCLL programme in September. In my spare time, I enjoy running and hiking with family and friends. I've worked with Enrich as a communications volunteer since 2018, translating material in Chinese and English.

Enrich is a leading educational organisation in Hong Kong that promotes the economic empowerment of migrant domestic workers. Our financial education and personal development programmes equip migrant domestic workers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to escape debt, plan for their future and achieve their goals.

3. What social issues would you like to see improve?

Migrant domestic workers make significant socio-economic contributions to Hong Kong but face numerous financial challenges and little support in saving or planning for their future.

Domestic work also remains a virtually invisible form of employment, despite playing a vital role in helping mothers stay economically active and parents spend more time with their children. As such, I would like to see improved financial inclusion for migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong, in the form of increased educational opportunities, financial literacy training and access to financial services.

I would also like to see wider recognition and acknowledgment of domestic work as skilled work, as I believe a cultural and value shift in how society perceives domestic work is a necessary first step in creating genuine, systemic change.

4. How can people get involved with Enrich (through donations, volunteer work or other means)?

You can get involved with Enrich by being a sponsor, making a donation, and/or signing up to be a volunteer. As an employer of a migrant domestic worker, you can help her build confidence and achieve her long-term financial goals by sponsoring her to attend Enrich's programmes.

You can also make a donation, enabling Enrich to reach as many of Hong Kong's 390,000 migrant domestic workers as possible with life-changing financial education. Alternatively, you can join Enrich as a volunteer as I did in 2018, as Enrich is always looking for support from volunteers with a variety of skills.
