By the way, I am Edgar Allan from Novaliches, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. I am a Filipino. My gender is male. I am single. I am a Mechanical Engineer who is currently working in a prestigious electronics / semiconductor company at Shatin, New Territories. I have been working here for about 2 months and 2 weeks to be exact. I did not encounter any homesickness problem in here because I worked as an Engineer in Taiwan for almost 8 years. Based on my experience, I already know how to fight homesickness problem when you are living and working in other country.

Here are the things that i did in order to fight and avoid homesickness problem: a) I call my family, relatives and friends from Philippines thru FB video call or other social media applications (Line, WhatsApp, WeChat and Skype) every week. b) I always explore the new and beautiful places in here so that I can familiarize the places in Hong Kong buy bus or MTR. c) I really love to hike alone or with my colleagues that is why I already hiked some mountains in here such as Tai Mo Shan, Ma On Shan, Lantau Peak, Victoria's Peak, Lion Rock mountain and Dragon's Back mountain every Sunday. d) I go to church and temples in here every weekends in order to strengthen my faith in God and I always  pray to God anytime and anywhere I go. e) Whenever I travel here by bus or MTR, I always talk to local people (Hongkongers) if there is an opportunity so that I can make friends with them in order to learn Cantonese language. f) I really love museums so i already went to some museums in here to see their paintings and their treasures. Just keep yourself busy so that you can avoid loneliness and homesickness when you are in other country.

At first, I really do not like my job functions in my HK company because my job functions in here are operator jobs. When I was working in the Philippines and in Taiwan, my job functions in there are Engineering jobs such as process improvement, productivity and quality improvement of the product in the production line, preventive maintenance of machines based on schedule, repair and troubleshooting of electronics/ semiconductor machines whenever there are breakdowns encountered in the production line. But what I did is that I really adjust myself and right now, I already embrace all the job functions of an operator jobs (Some of the operator jobs are: a. you are the one who operate the machines and you are the one who will run the lot of the product in that machine b. you are the one who will carry and will pour the heavy and dangerous chemicals in the tank of the machines.) because I am already in Hong Kong. If I won't do that, I will quit my job here and return back to Philippines. If that happens,  it will be a waste of opportunity for not accepting the big challenges that you encounter along your journey.

My co-workers in my departments are local people that is why, they can only speak a little English. Luckily, I can speak a little Mandarin language that is why I can communicate with them during working time even though their mother language is Cantonese. My Filipino manager in my HK company always reminded me that I should not be arrogant or higher to the local people I am working with but instead I should respect them, be humble and prove to them that you can do your very best to help them in the production line or do the job very well. And he always reminded me to wear some goggles, respirator, gloves and long or proper clothing when you handle dangerous chemicals in the production line. That is what I am doing right now. Besides, I really do not like the expensive cost of living in here but what I did is that I always cook my own food so that i can save money.

Because eating in a restaurant every day and every meal in here is very expensive that is why I always budget my money very wisely. We should avoid wearing black or white t-shirts or clothes in order to avoid being caught with rallyist or protesters in some parts of HK or avoid places that the protest or rally will take place by reading and listening about the HK news every day.

We should learn Cantonese everyday so that as a foreign worker we can understand what local people (Hongkongers) say and we can communicate to them very well. Whenever you find a free Cantonese lesson offered by some Universities in HK thru Facebook group, you should attend it if you have free time. Survival in other country is very important. Always believe in God, always believe in yourself and always help other people in need. Embrace and accept the job that you hate. Learn things that you can learn today. Dream big.
