Mask

By Emily C.Jino-o

Enjoys reality’s rivalry

   with treachery and fantasy,

Opposes chastity and honesty;

   rejoices in both truth and lies,

Like a subtle spy, triumphs in disguise

   Blind folds even the wise;

Too fraudulent and mischievous

   Seems to be flawless and virtuous,

No touch of doubt nor mishap.

Can make man laugh or cry

    Like a versatile actor ,

So influential, a wonderful idol-

    Grabs the brain and the heart,

Even one’s physique and spirit;

    Habitually captures emotions,

With ease, hides intentions!

    Apparently, both a villain and a hero,

May guide or mislead us, too!

Thus, we confusedly believed,

    Everything we saw or heard!

Though natural instincts insisted,

    Just like what a poet said:

“All of us was born with the

    Unseen mask on “

Cautiously seals true identities,

    To others, as invisible as the elves;

Unknown is the motives!

Whether for good or evil,

    No one can barely tell.

Aims to bury the past,

    Strengthens the curved-path,

And even to escape misfortune;

   Indeed, no one knows, only Thy Creator,

When the storm of life confronts us;

    May we all be unmasked.

Boldly, be ourselves at last! `

Stand for one common cause.

   Let faith, love, truth and wisdom

Serve as our masks,

   “Mask is a must”

Before, we had to be “unmasked”.

    Yet, as years quickly pass

Presently, we have to be “masked

    Or else COVID-19 will harm us!
