On The Escalator
by Ron R. Lacson
There were this little girl and this little boy
On the escalator standing side by side
Playing their feet’s rhythm like a toy
It’s a short journey yet a happy ride
One looks up, and the other looks down
One is at the moment; the other looks ahead
She is his queen, and he gives her a crown
Hear each whisper, and giggle is what it said
On the escalator, the fun does not cease
From top going down, even in going up
Closeness is apparent; fun is what they wish
Their joy is hot, like a good tea on a cup
When it’s done, they look back with glee
Their eyes speak as if they want more
Their hearts connect, their minds foresee
Another time of playing, on the escalator
