Healthy Sesame Bread

A few weeks ago I decided to change my diet, from being so careless, to being so mindful with my food intake. I started to check how much sugar my food contains. I was so keen in making aggressive changes on my everyday diet plans. Though I must admit it was so frustrating to say 'no' to some foods I used to enjoy, and I was always tempted to have a bite.  

 

 One of the food that I really crave from time to time is BREAD. Pandesal (Filipinos all-time favourite bread), sliced bread, bread with different fillings, you name it, I love eating all of them. Ohhh the smell of freshly baked bread, still hot and soft. 😅 😋 😋. I really can't resist the goodness of bread, I can even finish a pack of sliced bread in just a day. 

 

I'm a bread lover but of course I have to check what the bread consists of. The main ingredient of a bread is flour, sugar, some butter, or oil or shortening, and then eggs and milk. Oh no... all of these ingredients was sugar in different forms, except the egg. And the baker for sure put each ingredient abundantly, to make the bread so full of flavour.

 

Because of my drastic diet change to make my body healthy, I came up with an idea. I love bread, I can't resist having it, so why not make a bread on my own. A bread that won't compromise my diet plan, a bread that will be less sugary and less of the white flour. That is why I made this bread on my own taste. And I want to share it here.

 

SESAME BREAD

Ingredients :

·      Self-raising flour – 3 cups

·      Whole wheat flour – 3 1/2 cups

·      Active dry yeast – 2 tsp

·      Warm water – 1 cup

·      Warm Almond milk – 1 cup

·      Egg – 1 medium size

·      Butter – 1 tbsp (melted)

·      Sesame oil – 3 tbsp

·      Brown sugar – 1/2 cup

·      Salt – 1/2 tbsp

·      White sesame seeds for the topping

 

Procedure:

Dissolve yeast in the warm water (not hot or else the yeast will die). Set aside.

 

Combine self-raising flour and whole wheat flour. Mix the sugar and salt in the almond milk. Then put the yeast mixture unto the flour mixture.  Mix a bit then pour in the milk, sugar, salt mixture. Put the oil and melted butter then lastly the egg. Mix them all until a dough is formed.

 

Dust some flour in a surface then knead the dough.  Sprinkle little flour when the dough becomes sticky. Knead for 5-10 mins. Then place the dough in a bowl greased with little oil. Cover with cling wrap and damp cloth. Place in a warm spot and leave it for at least 1 hour.  After an hour check the dough if it has risen, punch excess air from it and then divide it in portions. 

 

Place your dough in your baking pan, arrange it then sprinkle the sesame seeds on top. Cover and let it rest for another 45 mins. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

 

Bake your bread for 30-45 mins. 

 

Then you're done. Enjoy your healthy bread…

 

It's not 100 percent wheat bread so still we have to minimize the amount our daily intake of this bread.
