We are breaking the cycle of poverty with online education.
We are building an online education platform and community that will give underprivileged communities and especially migrant domestic workers the tools and resources to lift themselves out of poverty for good.
Despite working abroad, far from their families and children, most domestic workers do not break the cycle of poverty.
Only 6% of returned migrant domestic workers go back home because they feel they made enough money (Seefar β Report on Modern Slavery in East Asia, 2016). They face tremendous financial pressure, are heavily indebted and donβt prepare for the future.
Everyone deserves an education. Everyone deserves hope.
We make education accessible. With our courses, underprivileged communities can develop personal and professional skills. We believe that women empowerment, education and community-based projects have the power to eradicate poverty and change lives.
Uplifters is a nonprofit organisation based in Hong Kong. We provide online education courses to migrant domestic workers.
Our objective is to help migrant domestic workers make the most of their time abroad, plan and save for the future while developing their personal and professional skills.
We believe in women empowerment to eradicate poverty and in communities supporting themselves β our alumni students facilitate our free Empowerment courses.
Our online education programs follow the best teaching practices based on cognitive & behavioral psychology and neurosciences:
- we leverage the power of peer support with cohort based programs: participants progress as a team and hold each other accountable
- we connect daily with participants to keep them actively engaged
- we create step by step education journeys with tangible milestones and make learning fun
- we follow the "learning by doing" approach: we push participants to act now because change is not something to learn but to experiment.
